I was raised in Hong Kong. Immigrated to Australia in 1983 and commenced my new life in Melbourne.

Studied high school in Doncaster, then progressed to university. Major in Accounting and Banking & Finance. After graduation, worked for ANZ in commercial lending until 2008.

How did I get started in pursuing martial arts?

On one hot summer night back in Hong Kong, when I was watching a live show on TV. There was a man dressed in a pair of tight white jeans who looked very slim & fit. Calmly, he said to the audience, “I am not sure if I can do this.” He then got down on his knees and started doing “two finger” push ups with his right arm only! The audience was stunned and there was  a very loud “wow”!

No one knew who he was back then. Later, we found out that he was “Bruce Lee”. The founder of a Mixed Martial Art System called “Jeet Kune Do”. Since that night, I became a big fan of Bruce Lee. That was how I began my life long journey in pursing & practicing martial arts.

From 1996 to 2000, practiced Wing Chun for 4 years. In addition, have trained briefly in Muay Thai Kick Boxing, Boxing and Filipino Fighting System.

How did I begin the journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)?

In 2000 after meeting my respected coach John Donehue, I began the challenging journey. My Coach Donehue is world class BJJ Black Belt. He is one of the five black belts under Gene LeBelle. Gene was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998 by Inside Kung Fu magazine as “America’s Greatest Living Grappler”.

Since then, I have been focusing on practising BJJ exclusively from my coach. For the past 11 years, training  in BJJ and free-style wrestling have been my main focus.

In addition to BJJ training, I have also learned free style wrestling from my wrestling coach Cris Brown who was a four time Australian Olympian.

I am grateful to both of my coaches for passing on the excellent techniques to me!
